The election microscopic examination of allantoic fluid from embryonated hens' eggs inoculated with tissue homogenates from organs of birds suffering with infectious bronchitis, reveals the presence of coronaviruses as early as the first or the second passage. Saturation of the southern ocean CO2 sink due to recent climate change   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Based on observed atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) concentration and an inverse method, we estimate that the Southern Ocean sink of CO2 has weakened between 1981 and 2004 by 0.08 petagrams of carbon per year per decade relative to the trend expected from the large increase in atmospheric CO2. We attribute this weakening to the observed increase in Southern Ocean winds resulting from human activities, which is projected to continue in the future. Consequences include a reduction of the efficiency of the Southern Ocean sink of CO2 in the short term (about 25 years) and possibly a higher level of stabilization of atmospheric CO2 on a multicentury time scale.  相似文献

Pretreatment D‐dimer levels have been reported to predict survival in several types of malignancies in human patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prognostic value of pretreatment D‐dimer level in dogs with intermediate to high‐grade non‐Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL). In a prospective, randomized, double‐blind study of F14512 vs etoposide phosphate, we assessed the prognostic value of pretreatment plasma D‐dimer level in 48 client‐owned dogs diagnosed with intermediate to high‐grade NHL. The correlation between pretreatment plasma D‐dimer level and various clinical features, progression‐free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) was analysed. The median value of pretreatment plasma D‐dimer level was 0.4 μg/mL (range: 0.1‐14.3 μg/mL). High pretreatment plasma D‐dimer level (>0.5 μg/mL) was detected in 44% (21/48) of dogs. High D‐dimer levels were not correlated with naive vs relapsed lymphoma, clinical stage, substage, immunophenotype or treatment group. D‐dimer levels >0.5 μg/mL were significantly associated with inferior median PFS (54 vs 104 days, P = .011) and OS (93 vs 169 days, P = .003). In the multivariate analysis, high D‐dimer levels remained an independent predictor for worse PFS (HR: 3.21, 95% CI: 1.57‐6.56, P = .001) and OS (HR: 3.87, 95% CI: 1.88‐7.98; P < .001). This study suggests that pretreatment plasma D‐dimer level can serve as a predictor of prognosis in dogs with intermediate to high‐grade NHL. Further studies are warranted to confirm these findings.  相似文献

To assess the effect of vegetation types and of fire regime on the flammability of dead fuels, samples of litter were collected undisturbed (i.e. keeping the structure of litter layers) in 29 study sites spread over the limestone-derived soils of Provence. The sampling plan comprised the most representative ecosystems of the study area: pure Pinus halepensis stands, mixed pine-oak stands and shrublands. Three classes of litter depth were studied (low, medium and high) to account for the variability existing in the field. Sampling also included the number of fires in each site since 1960 (no fire, 1 or 2 fires and ≥3 fires) and the time interval since the last fire (≤15 years, 15-45 years and >45 years). Flammability experiments were carried out in laboratory using a glowing firebrand and a 10 km h−1 wind. The main variables recorded were: ignition frequency, time-to-ignition, flaming duration, flame rate of spread, flame propagation, mean flame temperature, maximum flame height and rate of consumption.Results showed that the ignition frequency was higher in mixed stands than in pure pine stands whereas the time-to ignition, flaming duration and rate of consumption were the highest in pure pine stands. The maximum flame height and the flame propagation decreased with the increase of the number of fires and the time-to-ignition was the highest when the interval since the last fire was the shortest. Increases in litter depth resulted in increased mean flame temperature, maximum flame height and flame propagation. These results can be explained, in part, by the proportions of the different litter components.  相似文献

The present study aims first to compare the antioxidant microconstituent contents between organically and conventionally grown tomatoes and, second, to evaluate whether the consumption of purees made of these tomatoes can differently affect the plasma levels of antioxidant microconstituents in humans. When results were expressed as fresh matter, organic tomatoes had higher vitamin C, carotenoids, and polyphenol contents (except for chlorogenic acid) than conventional tomatoes. When results were expressed as dry matter, no significant difference was found for lycopene and naringenin. In tomato purees, no difference in carotenoid content was found between the two modes of culture, whereas the concentrations of vitamin C and polyphenols remained higher in purees made out of organic tomatoes. For the nutritional intervention, no significant difference (after 3 weeks of consumption of 96 g/day of tomato puree) was found between the two purees with regard to their ability to affect the plasma levels of the two major antioxidants, vitamin C and lycopene.  相似文献

In this study, eight maize recombinant inbred lines were selected to assess both the impact of lignin structure and the impact of cell wall reticulation by p-hydroxycinnamic acids on cell wall degradability independently of the main "lignin content" factor. These recombinant lines and their parents were analyzed for in vitro degradability, cell wall residue content, esterified and etherified p-hydroxycinnamic acid content, and lignin content and structure. Lignin structure and esterified p-coumaric acid content showed significantly high correlation with in vitro degradability (r=-0.82 and r=-0.72, respectively). A multiple regression analysis showed that more than 80% of cell wall degradability variations within these 10 lines (eight recombinant inbred lines and their two parents) were explained by a regression model including two main explanatory factors: lignin content and estimated proportion of syringyl lignin units esterified by p-coumaric acid. This study revealed new biochemical parameters of interest to improve cell wall degradability and promote lignocellulose valorization.  相似文献
